Though countless people will now say they have the luxury of 20/20 hindsight, many could, and did, know full-well what was coming long before the 2008 election ballots were tallied and a winner announced. For those individuals, slogans, bloated expectations and the potential to be a part of history never blinded them from the true reality of the facts at hand. First, there was the known quantity in John McCain: war hero, long-time member of Congress, moderate-at-best Republican with mixed stances on key issues. The McCain selection created apathy throughout the Republican Party, causing many to stay home on Election Day, ultimately paving the way for Barack Obama to become the 44th President of the United States. While everything about McCain was fully-exposed following years in public office, Barack Obama was catapulted from the shadows following his 2004 Keynote Address to the Democratic National Convention, where his oratory skills caught the attention of all those watching across the nation. There was one problem: no one really knew much about him.
Spending the majority of his life as a student, professor and community organizer, Obama had limited experience in politics prior to beginning the ascent to the top of the Democratic ticket. From 1997-2003, he was an Illinois State Senator, where not only did he fail to sponsor any significant legislation, he also repeatedly voted “present” – as opposed to “Yes” or “No” – which is often used by politicians to cover their ideology on specific issues. He did this 129 times, including twice on a bill prohibiting partial-birth abortion, once on a bill protecting the identity of sex-abuse victims (where he was the only member of the legislature not to support) and on another bill that protected a newborn if an abortion was botched and the child was born alive. It’s not shocking that, as a U.S. Senator from 2000-2004, he was rated as having the most liberal voting record of all Democrats. However, it is his friends and associates where the pieces of the puzzle start coming together.
His life has been filled with guidance from radicals, communists, socialists, terrorists and haters of America, spanning back to his childhood. He has been shaped by these relationships, which is proven repeatedly through his words, actions and political record. These ties did not surface until video from Obama’s pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, went viral (see video in link below). At the same time, his past was quickly being hidden from view by his campaign, and the media, prior to the election. Though the full list of radicals is too long to post here, an abridged list proves the point:
Frank Marshall Davis – a publicly-identified member of the Communist Party who mentored Obama in his youth.
Bill Ayers – leader of the communist, radical Weather Underground terrorist group that bombed U.S. public buildings in the 60s and 70s. Obama spent time with him and his wife, Bernadine Dohrn, a founding member of the Weather Underground.
Professor Derrick Bell – outspoken racist who taught and was befriended by Obama at Harvard Law School.
Jeff Jones – a founding member of the Weather Underground terrorist group and co-author of the Obama Stimulus Bill.
Rashid Khalidi – spokesman for the Palestinian Liberation Organization terrorist group. The Obama’s were frequent visitors to the Khalidi household in Chicago in the 90s.
Reverend Jeremiah Wright – Obama’s racist, anti-American pastor and spiritual advisor in Chicago for 20 years. The video clip says it all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ix-AMYos0Js
All of this shapes exactly who the man is today. We are all touched and molded by the people we meet from the moment we are thrust upon this earth until we take our final breath. It cannot be denied that the individuals you surround yourself with are a reflection of who you are. This is exactly the case with Barack Obama, who has chosen to surround himself with individuals whose actions and beliefs run contrary to the morals, values and founding principles of our nation. The policies, judgments and laws put in place by this administration follow the ideology of all these individuals. Is it any wonder we have ended up in such a problematic situation in 2012?
In 2008, all of this information fell by the wayside. While “Hope and Change” became the mantra, no one took the time or expelled the energy to vet the man the nation was electing. Never in the history of the highest office on the planet has an electorate so failed to background check their leader. One must only look to his life and his record to see exactly why his policies have failed and why this nation will not last with more of the same. This time around, the same mistake cannot be repeated.
