Event of the Week – September 9, 2012

As we marked the 11th anniversary of the September 11th attacks that changed our lives forever, thousands of miles away, Egyptian and Libyan mobs were commemorating the day quite differently. For those of you who somehow managed to miss it, these mobs attacked our U.S. Embassies in Egypt and Libya (as well as in Yemen and Tunisia today), climbing the walls, tearing down the American flag and, in Egypt, raised the black flag of al-Qaeda in its place. The flag swap was the mildest aspect of the day. The attack in Libya was much more of a disaster, resulting in the death of our U.S. Ambassador, Christopher Stevens, along with three other Americans. As the embassy was attacked, Stevens and others were taken to a safe house to hide until they could be rescued and escape the city. The part of this story that has been inadequately pointed out is that someone gave away where the safe house was located, leading to the attack and deaths of our people. Someone trusted to protect the embassy and the ambassador became a traitor. Prior to all of these attacks, which U.S. officials feel were premeditated, there was a line of failures from the highest levels that allowed it all to happen. Our leadership failed.

The normal protocol for the other 364 days of the year at each embassy worldwide is to have tight security, normally consisting of U.S. Marines. You would think that, on a day such as September 11, there would be extra security guarding every major U.S. interest on this planet. In Libya, however, there was a barebones security force that barely attempted to withstand or protect. Pictures were released of the unconscious body of Ambassador Stevens being carried through the streets over the shoulder of a Libyan, reportedly on their way to a local hospital. I found this deeply disturbing, having the realization that this should never happen to the representatives of our nation, regardless of where they are stationed. We have the strongest military and the most sophisticated, well-trained forces in the history of the world (by the way, billions are being cut from our nation’s military funding, which we’ll get to in the near future). How could this happen? On the one day in our country’s history that we should never be caught off-guard, four of our citizens were easily slaughtered.

And yes, you guessed it, the facts get worse. A story not being widely broadcast is that, according to the official White House calendar, which gives the accurate, up-to-date schedule of the President’s daily schedule, President Obama had not attended his daily intelligence and national security briefings since September 5th – six full days prior to the attacks. This is on top of the study released by the Government Accountability Institute before the attacks, which showed Obama has only attended 43.8% of his daily intelligence briefings since he took office. Now, anyone could see how attending 100% would be nearly impossible, dealing with an extensive travel schedule spanning the globe. But less than half?!

Our Commander-in-Chief, whose first and foremost duty is to protect the lives of the citizens of the USA, only attends 4 of every 10 intelligence and national security briefings. This follows the same pattern as his Senatorial days, where he missed 82 of 346 (23.7%) votes from 2007-2008 according to a Newsweek article during the 2008 campaign. Vice President Joe Biden missed 99 of 346 votes (28.6%) during the same span of time. And we obviously cannot forget all the times he voted “Present” in the Illinois legislature. This pattern that has been repeated from state office to national office to the highest office on the planet is a disturbing one.

Finally, the response to the attacks should be examined. Initially, the attacks were blamed on a random, homemade video just made in the U.S. depicting the Muslim prophet Muhammad in an unflattering way. So, in a very rational response, the “religion of peace” set out to destroy and murder in the Middle East. Problem is, after reporting that the movie that no one knew about until that day was the cause, U.S. Intelligence officials came out saying it was most likely a premeditated attack to commemorate September 11th. In Egypt, the mobs chanted “Obama! Obama! We are all Osama!” So much for the Osama Bin Laden killing making a major impact on our global safety. But even prior to the attacks, a member of our State Department at the U.S. Embassy in Egypt bowed down to the extremists with an APOLOGY:

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve out nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions of those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.

An apology for free speech?! To people who burn down our Embassies and murder our people?! I can’t help but look back at all the riots that occurred in America over words and art that attacked Christians and their faith. All the buildings burned to the ground over the award-winning “Piss Christ” (http://images.elephantjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/serrano-andres-piss-christ-1987.jpg). Or what about the violence and murders across the country because of the heinous film “The Last Temptation of Christ”? And who could forget the mass destruction that occurred when famous Atheist Richard Dawkins released his book “The God Delusion”?

Oh, wait…that never happened.

About theruminatingconservative

Politics is my absolute passion - bordering on obsession...alright, fine, it's an obsession. For years, I have made a study of all aspects of the political world - both sides of the aisle - on a mission to accumulate a mountain of facts and evidence to show why both sides just can’t be right. We live in a time where too many are too afraid, too under-informed or just too lazy to stand up for their beliefs. That time needs to end. Fantasies, half-truths, lies, emotionally-driven rhetoric and political correctness all stop here. This is education by facts, intelligent debate and gaining an understanding of what is truly at stake each and every day in the greatest nation this planet has ever witnessed. Come with me... This is The ARC.
