It has been nearly three week since the attack on our embassy in Libya and the protests that followed in over twenty countries spanning from Pakistan to England on September 11. So much fog and misinformation has come from multiple parties, delaying the prospect of receiving a genuine explanation of what transpired that day and what actually caused it. It is essential to realize that this event was not just a small, isolated incident that resulted in a small number of deaths. In a post-9/11/2001 America, we often misguidedly measure the magnitude of terrorism and atrocities in body counts and levels of destruction. The degree of violence is also muted when it occurs thousands of miles away, outside our borders. These factors make it much simpler to set a narrative filled with mistruths and deception. That is exactly what the Obama administration has done with the embassy attack, and the trail of lies runs straight to the White House.
The initial report following the attack was that a spontaneous protest had broken out in front of the U.S. Embassy in Libya, where it then escalated and resulted in a full-blown attack, complete with grenades and mortars, resulting in the deaths of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. The protests and attack were blamed on the YouTube trailer of a film depicting the Muslim prophet Muhammad in a not-so-flattering way. There were multiple issues with this report. First of all, the video had a minimal amount of views and had not been seen nearly enough to span the globe. Secondly, spontaneous protesters don’t show up with full-blown military weaponry and mortars. This was never primarily a protest. This was a premeditated terrorist attack.
When the President of Libya comes out and says he is 100% certain the attacks, in his own country, were pre-planned, it is very hard to argue otherwise. Why, then, did the Obama administration spend the first two weeks following the attack not referring to it as such? First, they sent out U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice to all the top-rated Sunday shows to push the narrative that it was just a protest that turned violent. She spoke for the administration. Just as the attack on our embassy was predetermined, so was her script. Over and over, she stated that the YouTube video was to blame. The lie continued.
Slowly but surely, as more questions were asked and more pressure was put on the administration, they began to admit that this was more than just a minor protest-turned-violent. More damning evidence has come to light, including that the White House was provided with information from our national intelligence groups that it was most likely the work of al-Qaeda and had been premeditated – within the FIRST 24 HOURS following the attack. At the same time, having all this information before them, the administration continued to push the narrative, push the lie.
Why, then, has President Obama still failed to utter the word “terrorism” when discussing this topic three weeks later? This week, he stood before the General Assembly of the United Nations, where he spent chunks of his speech decrying the YouTube video and talking about religious tolerance. Nowhere in his speech did he refer to the attacks as terrorism. This was weakness, but also the continuance of a cover-up. Why, you ask, would this administration continue to conceal information and blur the facts? The answer is clearer than you might think.
For the entirety of the Democratic National Convention, the majority of the focus was spent on the killing of Osama Bin Laden. This, of course, has been Obama’s crowning foreign policy achievement. It came with high praise and a self-created expectation that his death would further hinder al-Qaeda and terrorism around the world. How badly would it look if the same group he claimed to have thwarted came back with another successful attack, five days after the close of the DNC, on the anniversary of their crowning terrorist achievement, no less?
This was the cover-up of our leader’s failure.
After boasting his election would bring a greater respect for America around the world, along with apologizing and groveling for all our “misdeeds”, how could they still hate us? The epic catastrophe of a terrorist attack on his watch had to be expunged, first by attempting to blame it on a frivolous YouTube video, then refusing to call it terrorism, all while obstructing our view from all the facts at hand. This was a massive attempt to push a narrative that never existed.
This was a lie.
